Attica: Lycabettus - Hiking trails Athens
Lycabettus Hill is one of the most emblematic hills of Athens and the highest natural point in the city centre, with a height of 277 metres. It is located northeast of the Acropolis and offers panoramic views stretching from the Saronic Gulf to the mountains surrounding the capital. At the top of the hill is the chapel of Agios Georgios, while the area is a popular destination for walkers, photographers and tourists.
The Lycabettus Hill is rich in natural vegetation, mainly Mediterranean pines, and has well-organized hiking trails. Visitors can reach the top either via the paths or by cable car from the Kolonaki area.
The pine-lined paths of Lycabettus are like an oasis in the urban fabric of Athens. The pine trees, with their characteristic scents, (especially in spring) create a natural embrace that invites you to breathe deeply and relax.
The paths wind around the hill, revealing every now and then small corners with views of Athens, from the modern architecture of the city to the deep blue of the Saronic Gulf. Here, nature and the city coexist in perfect harmony, offering moments of contemplation and rejuvenation.
